JUNK FOOD OR REAL FOOD?

April 24, 2026 by Eddie Leave a Comment

Do you have a favorite junk food?  Do you prefer something sweet, like chocolates, or cookies; or something salty, like potato chips, or chicharon?  Whatever it is, have you noticed that you can never really seem to have enough of it?   Be honest, we have a tendency to binge eat, don’t we?   Maybe it’s not really junk, but have you ever found yourself eating not because you’re really hungry, but because maybe we’re tired, stressed, or just looking for comfort?

Whatever the reason why we binge, it seems to work, doesn’t it?

THE KEY MESSAGE BEHIND THE PASSION, DEATH AND RESURRECTION

April 12, 2026 by Eddie Leave a Comment

Imagine the disciples gathered in one room that night.  The gospel of John (20:19-31) says that the disciples are afraid of the Jewish leaders, probably because they might be singled out as loyal followers of Jesus and may be arrested and executed also, like Jesus.   They lock the doors, keep the lights dim, and speak in hushed voices.

I don’t know about you, but I think that the disciples are not afraid just of the authorities.

IS GOD’S MERCY WASTED ON US?

March 7, 2026 by Eddie Leave a Comment

Let me start with some trivia.  You’re all probably familiar with the parable of The Prodigal Son in Luke 15:11–32, right?  Well, the term “prodigal” is actually not found in the text of the Gospel itself.   Based on google research, I learned that this term is a later title that became attached to the parable over centuries.  In fact, none of Jesus’ parables originally had titles. The headings we see in modern Bibles were added later by editors to help readers navigate the text.

So much for trivia.  But I want to reflect on that word “prodigal”.  In this story, our attention of course is drawn toward the younger son who demands for his inheritance, runs away and wastes his inheritance in a lavish and foolish lifestyle.

WATCH WHAT YOU ARE BECOMING

February 26, 2026 by Eddie Leave a Comment

None of us I’m sure will admit that we are hypocrites.  We want to be good. We want to be faithful. We want to do right by God and by others. And we want others to see us that way.

And yet, over time, it can happen that there are small compromises in our faith that we begin to accept — not because they are good, but because they are familiar.  And sometimes, because we see it in others, including our elders and those whom we hold in regard, we tolerate it in ourselves.

THE SIN THAT CANNOT BE FORGIVEN

January 26, 2026 by Eddie Leave a Comment

You and I know that Jesus died and paid for all sins of mankind, right?  And that there is no sin that is so gruesome, or so horrible, that is not covered by the blood of Jesus.  But just because all sins have been paid for, still, not all will enter the kingdom of heaven.  Why?  Well, because this offer of salvation of Jesus requires a response from you and I.  Before we are entitled the promise of eternal salvation in the presence of God, we have to repent and ask for forgiveness and accept Jesus as our Lord and savior and devote our lives to Him as His follower.
