We’re all excited about what lies ahead for us in 2021, for we are never a people without hope and optimism. I pray that as we reflect on the coming year, our mind is not just wishing for good things to happen, but we’re mainly thinking of what good things God plans for us to accomplish this coming year.

One of the best ways you can honor God is to commit to spend time to listen to Him every morning, and to delight in His word and in His presence. In fact, you can’t possibly grow in your relationship with the Lord without give the Lord quality time to “teach, correct, rebuke, or train” you through His word in scripture.

During one of our earlier THIRST-DAY SERIES learning sessions with the pastoral leaders of Ligaya’s Central B District, I talked about the vision of scripture-focused small group meetings. At some point, Joseph Mora asked a very good question that must have been in the minds of the other participants: “What verse can we use to pray during specific situations?” Let me try to answer that here.

Jesus told three different stories, but the same message. One is the story of the good Samaritan found in Luke 10. The other is found in Matthew 7:21, where Jesus says, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.” The third one is that lesson in Matthew 25, where He talks about the consequences of those times when we either extend kindness to “the least of these” or not.
