One of my favorite psalms is Psalm 8, which says, “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moons and the stars ….” I’m not sure if you’ve actually, really, spent some time “considering the heavens”. I have. And so I’d like to take you on a little guided tour of some sort, to “consider the heavens … the moons and the stars”.

Whenever I go out of town, one of my favorite things to do in the evening is, if I could, walk over to some isolated place away from the house lights, or the car lights, or the street light post. And then I would stare at the night sky and enjoy the spectacle of a starry starry night.

I recall a presentation I would give about how great and awesome God is. My object lesson is the comparison of the size of the sun with the size of the earth, and their relative distance from each other. Then, I’d show them some photos of the constellation Orion, tell them about the size of Betelgeuse, and then the Milky Way, and then other galaxies and the Milky Way in relation to the other galaxies. THE WHEREAS CLAUSE OF OUR COVENANT

I’ve had the opportunity in my many years at work to write, review, and sign contracts, MOAs, MOUs, etc., from simple contracts for training, to very complex billion peso mergers and acquisitions. While my attention is usually focused on the meat of the contracts that begin with the “NOW, THEREFORE” section, I’ve come to realize over time that the “WHEREAS” section (what lawyers call the “recitals”) is actually such a significant part of the contract. GOD’S WAZE ARE NOT OUR WAZE

I find that this traffic and navigation app called Waze is an amazingly helpful tool in getting around MetroManila. Not because I don’t know my way around this complex metropolis. But because it shows me the best way to get around in the shortest time, avoiding heavy traffic. Or shall I say, avoiding the heavier traffic – since there’s no way to avoid traffic altogether.
