ETERNAL LIFE BEGINS WITH WHOM YOU KNOW

May 8, 2025 by Eddie Leave a Comment

In John 6:51, Jesus says: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever”.

When most people hear the phrase “eternal life,” when they think about “living forever”, they think of something distant… something that kicks in after death. Maybe it sounds like floating in the clouds forever, or just… not dying. Let’s be honest — that doesn’t sound all that exciting. To some, it sounds boring. Or irrelevant when it comes to making life choices. Right?

But what if we’ve misunderstood what Jesus meant?

Well, look here.  Jesus Himself gave us a different definition. He said:  “This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” (John 17:3)

Eternal life, according to Jesus, isn’t just about how long you live. It’s about WHO you know — and the KIND OF LIFE that relationship brings. Not just someday. Not just in heaven. But now.

Let me make this real for us.  You can be living what looks like a full life: Career’s on track. Friends and followers in your FB corner. You travel, you chill, you’ve got your playlists, your passions, your person.

And yet… when it gets quiet… when the scrolling stops… you hear a whisper asking: “Is this it?”  Because, my friend, even on your best day, something still feels like it’s missing. Right?

That’s where Jesus steps in and says: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever.” (John 6:51)

FYI, in the ancient world, bread wasn’t a snack. It was survival. Jesus used that metaphor to say: “I’m not just something extra. I’m the essential nourishment your soul needs.”  And He’s not offering a religion. He’s offering LIFE. Not a rulebook. A relationship. Not just “living forever,” but finally coming alive.  Not just in the distant future at your death.  But right now.  Fully alive today.

See, my friend, we’re all feeding on something, aren’t we?  Things like: Success. Applause. Adventure. Romance. Reels. Recognition. But it’s like eating cotton candy when your soul needs real food.

And please note.  Jesus is not a killjoy.  He isn’t here to compete with the good things you enjoy.  No.  But He’s here to COMPLETE what they can’t provide.  Jesus gives:

  • Peace that doesn’t leave when things fall apart.
  • Identity that isn’t tied to applause.
  • Purpose that doesn’t depend on performance.
  • Love that doesn’t vanish when you mess up.

Now THAT’S Fullness of Life.  That’s the quality of eternal life that you can experience today.

Jesus said, “I came that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)  Not a half-life. But a full life that begins now… and never ends.  It’s a present reality, rooted in a relationship with the Source of life.  And Jesus is saying: “That source… is Me.”

So here’s the real question: Are you just “doing fine”? Or are you truly alive?  You don’t have to be desperate to need Jesus. You just need to be honest. Honest enough to admit: “I’ve tried a lot of things… and I’m still hungry.”

So, my friend … This might be your moment.  Maybe it’s your soul telling you the truth: That you were made for more.  If so … maybe it’s time to come to the table.  Because the bread is still being offered. And His name is Jesus.

If someone you trust sent this to you, it’s probably because they’ve tasted that kind of life.  They didn’t send this by random accident, by the way.  In fact, they’re hoping you’ll get curious enough to message them and ask:  Could this be real for me too?  I want to know more.
