NEW NORMAL IN OLD TESTAMENT TIMES

Ever since the entire world realized that this covid pandemic will not go away easily, people everywhere have adapted new norms and ways of living and working, in order to avoid cross-contamination and to deal with life-under-lockdown and mandated restrictions.  Not only does everyone have to deal with the sudden changes in life- and work-style, so many have to deal with real and painful losses.  This is what living in the new normal means. But this new normal situation that we face today is actually not the first time it has happened in human history.

PRAYING TO HAVE PROBLEMS

“Lord, bigyan mo kami ng problema.”  The first time I said that prayer was in 2009 during a prayer for empowerment for the team that was assigned to handle the Holy Triduum preparations of our prayer community.   Naturally, my team was surprised about that prayer because they expected me, as the team leader of the service team, to ask the Lord to bless us so that everything would fall into place, that the event would go smoothly, and so on.  After all this was not an easy service, and it involved tremendous amount of preparation and coordination, with many moving parts. The odds of a foul up were stacked against us. And then this was my prayer: “Give us problems, Lord.”

WHO’S GOING TO TAKE THE CREDIT

When this is finally all over, this pandemic situation I mean, I wonder who’s going to take credit for it ending? Whom are they going to post in the cover of Time magazine as Person of the Year, or who will be granted the Nobel Peace Prize for paving the critical path towards the redemption of all mankind from this dreaded coronavirus?
