DO YOU REALLY KNOW JESUS? Close ba kayo?

In John 7:25-30 Jesus accuses the crowds in Jerusalem that they do not know God. He says, “You know me, and you know where I am from … but the One who sent me is true, and you do not know Him.”

This is a personal insult to them, because the Jews believe that of all the peoples, they are the ones who know Yahweh, who know the one, true God. Yet, Jesus says to their face, “naaaah, you don’t really know Him. But I know Him!” This is yet another one of the reasons why the people of Jerusalem wanted Him arrested and killed.

Can we take a moment now to reflect on what Jesus was saying to these people in this passage. “You do not know God.”

HOW MUCH FAITH DO YOU NEED?

Often, when we encounter challenges in our lives so that we are overcome by great anxiety, or fear, and we are facing an uncertain future, one of the most common encouragements we hear from others — or maybe we tell ourselves even — is that we should not be afraid, but instead we should just trust God. WHY DO YOU SPEAK IN PARABLES?

You’re all familiar with the parable of the sower and the seed, and what it meant, right? Well, here’s a bit of trivia. Did you know that this is the first parable that the synoptic gospel writers (Matthew, Mark and Luke) recorded? And, also, did you know that when Jesus spoke this parable to the large crowds, he didn’t explain it to the crowd? Mark says, in Mark 4:10, “When He was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables.”

In fact, I like the way Matthew recorded the question that the disciples asked Jesus about this parable when they were away from the crowds already. They asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?’” (Matt 13:10). In other words, why tell the crowds a story, but not explain what it means? What’s your point in doing this?

SEEK TO KNOW THE LORD

Jesus says, “In this world, you will have trouble” (john 16:33). No wonder. Yet again, Jesus shows us the way to navigate life in this troubled world without anxiety and fear, saying: “Do not be afraid. Believe in God, believe also in me” (John 14:`1). The thing is, the pathway from belief to trust requires deep, personal knowledge of Him whom we would trust. Indeed, how can we ever trust someone whom we do not know?

OUR ALL & NOTHING GOD

There’s a beautiful verse in a Christian song that has been playing over and over in my mind like a last song syndrome. “Everyone that sees You always want to know You. And everyone that knows You always has a smile.” For those of you who want to know God in a new way and thus wear a glowing smile, consider that God is an “all and nothing” God.
