After working hard on a project or an investment proposal, and you’re competing with others for funding, and after having worked so hard, and put in so much time and energy and all your resources into this final bid, confident that you have THE winning solution … imagine hearing these words: ‘You’ve done well … but you forgot the one thing that matters most. So sorry for you.’”
How would you react? All that effort wasted. Sayang. If you only knew THAT ONE THING that mattered, you would have considered and prioritized that in your proposal, right? Or, worse. What if you knew about it, but you didn’t think it was a big deal.
You see, a lot of us spend years working hard, making wise choices, stewarding our careers or our businesses, making sure we’re healthy, and surrounding ourselves with happy company. And that’s good. These are blessings and are often, signs of God’s favor.
But listen to the story that Jesus tells in Luke 12: 13-21 about a man like that. His business was booming. His land produced so much that he had to build bigger barns just to store the overflow. From every angle, he was a success. The success we all wish we had.
But then — God speaks. And He says,
“You fool. This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you’ve prepared for yourself?”
And Jesus explains why this is bad news: “This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.” How foolish of him to ignore what is most important, right? By the way, just to be clear — death is not the problem; it’s not the bad news. The bad news is the separation from God forever because he did not prepare for it.
That hits hard. Not because the man was evil; he wasn’t. Not because he was rich. But because he lived as though THIS life was all there is. And he didn’t prepare for it.
Let me ask: could that be any of us? Could we be unprepared for the one thing that matters most?
My friend, if you’ve done well — if you’ve stewarded your health, your wealth, your mind, praise God! Jesus isn’t scolding you. God doesn’t want to take your success away. He’s inviting you. He’s saying: That’s good. But don’t stop there. Be rich toward God. Build barns, yes — but also build a relationship with the One who gives breath, meaning, and eternity. And that, my friend is the one thing that matters the most: eternity
So if you’ve planned well for everything else… maybe it’s time to ask: Do you have an eternal plan? And I don’t mean a memorial plan. Don’t be a fool and be unprepared. Cuz there are two truths that, sadly, many of us remain in denial of.
Truth number 1. There IS life after death for all of us. The thing is, we can either choose to follow Jesus and spend eternity in the beautiful and happy presence of God; or we can postpone the choice or ignore the offer, and spend eternity somewhere else far away where there is no happiness, no joy, no peace, no goodness, and no hope whatsoever. Forever.
Truth Number 2. Even though Jesus doesn’t want anyone to spend eternity without Him (2 Peter 3:9) His offer of Jesus for fullness of life forever, is a limited time offer. Someday, and for sure — but we don’t know when or how — our life will be demanded of us, and when that happens our destiny is already determined.
That is why, you would be a fool not to make a decision as soon as possible because you don’t know when this offer will expire. I’m sorry to sound morbid, but I share this truth with love.
Today, again, Jesus invites you. And He’s just patiently waiting for you to say, “Lord, I want more than full barns. I want fullness of life that you promise and offer. Today.”
I pray this has stirred something in you, my friend. If so, why not message me, or the person who sent you this video. And we would love to help you make this decision that matters the most, and to accompany you in following Jesus.
