Dedicating a significant amount of time alone in a quiet place at the start of the year to engage in an intimate conversation with Lord is a rewarding exercise of faith. It’s the perfect time to reflect on the year that has just passed with thankfulness, and open yourself up to the Lord’s purposes with prayerful expectation for the year ahead. It builds on our relationship with the Lord who is our good Shepherd, and who is sovereign in our lives.

This year on Aug 29, the last Monday of August, our nation will remember her heroes of long ago, men and women who fought for what they believed was our sovereign right as a people, and who braved death against all odds. Those that fight political battles are called heroes; those that fight spiritual battles are called saints. Wouldn’t it be nice if we had more heroes and more saints in our midst? A.W. Tozer in his book entitled Of God and Man, says, “The fact is that we are not today producing saints.”

My daughter, Nicky, asked me the other day for some tips on how to lead worship. Apparently she had been asked by her pastoral leader to lead their prayer group into worship during a forthcoming prayer meeting.
I know the feeling of anxiety when someone is asked to lead others into worship. Many years ago (several decades actually) when I was first invited to do this, I felt confident I knew what to do; after all, I had seen many others do it before, and I thought it was just a simple matter of saying a few opening statements, and then cut into singing and jubilant praise and have the music ministry take over. In an earlier article entitled LISTING DOWN ALL THAT JESUS COMMANDED, I wrote about my desire to have a list of all the commands of Jesus. This was in connection with what Jesus said in Matt 28: “teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.” So, I went back to all the four gospels and listed all the commands that Jesus gave to his disciples, and which in my mind, I thought He wanted all His disciples then, and now and forever, to follow.
