PRAYING THE SCRIPTURES

Praying the Scriptures is a prayer method that is easy to learn and put into practice, and if practiced regularly, it will enhance not just our regular prayer time and communal prayers, but also enrich one’s bible reading.

The aim of our THIRST-DAY SERIES is to equip our pastoral leaders with a variety of tools, tips, techniques, exercises and guides in order to have “scripture-focused” discussions during their regular small group meetings.

I DO NOT KNOW YOU

Jesus told three different stories, but the same message. One is the story of the good Samaritan found in Luke 10.  The other is found in Matthew 7:21, where Jesus says, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.”  The third one is that lesson in Matthew 25, where He talks about the consequences of those times when we either extend kindness to “the least of these” or not.

The parable of Jesus about the unforgiving servant was His reply to Peter’s question about how often one must forgive an offender. As I reflected on this now-familiar parable, it occurred to me that I am blessed that I have not really had to deal with a chronic offender, as was suggested by Peter.

If you are a servant leader of a small prayer group, imagine the following scenario where your meetings with your small group are intentionally scripture-focused. You actually begin to call your meetings “bible study” meetings. It’s not you acting as preacher to them. Rather, you facilitate the discussion and meeting activity around scripture-based topics.
