SEEK TO KNOW THE LORD

March 29, 2020 by Eddie 2 Comments

Jesus says, “In this world, you will have trouble” (john 16:33). No wonder. Yet again, Jesus shows us the way to navigate life in this troubled world without anxiety and fear, saying: “Do not be afraid. Believe in God, believe also in me” (John 14:`1). The thing is, the pathway from belief to trust requires deep, personal knowledge of Him whom we would trust. Indeed, how can we ever trust someone whom we do not know?

At such a troubled time as what we are going through, we are often encouraged to have faith and to trust in the Lord who will see us through. We see the fear and the dread that overwhelm even the believers of Christ. And I do not wish to dismiss these fears and the horror experienced by the afflicted and the vulnerable. But in my opinion, the reason why our trust is weak despite the claims of faith is that our knowledge of God has dimmed.

Today more than ever, I believe each one needs to invest fresh energy in the discipline and effort to intentionally, earnestly, and continuously seek to know God as He wants to be known. Jesus shed blood on the cross and died in order to entitle those who believe in Him to enter the wonderful presence and gain personal and intimate knowledge of God. The words of Jesus in Matt 6 ring loud: Do not worry. Do not worry. Do not worry. Seek first God’s kingdom. Seek first. Seek first to know who it is that you’re asking help from. Then perhaps if you know Him enough, then you wouldn’t be afraid at all.

I have recently preached on this subject of seeking the Lord to several prayer groups in Ang Ligaya ng Panginoon Community. I exhorted everyone to return to the discipline of seeking God with the singular purpose of desiring with all our heart to know Him more. Our inspiration comes from Psalm 34:19, “The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.” And I invited each one to test the Lord on this, and to devote seven days to singularly, intentionally, and continually seek and get to know the Lord.

Thank you for sharing these 3 disciplines. Although it wasn’t a conscious and systematic discipline like what you haVe shared in this article, I started being mindful about where God is during my day since last year. Thanks for sharing these 3 disciplines, I’ll be conscious to apply that to me and to share it with others as well.

A fresh start with our relationship with the One who created us! Kinda brings you back to the questions “Who are you, Lord? Who am I that you have created me? What for?”
Thanks for feeding us, Tito Eds!

“I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Eph 3:18-19)
